Chief Executive Officer Full Time

About the Role:

Surfing Queensland Inc is the peak body for the administration of the sport of surfing in Queensland. We are looking for an experienced and dedicated chief executive officer who can lead the team to deliver on several objectives to advance the sport and as set out in the strategic plan. The ideal candidate will take responsibility for staff and governance, build partnerships, oversee events and initiatives, and help make robust decisions. The CEO will foster a positive, inspiring, and collaborative work environment that empowers employees to actively work toward their own and the organisation’s goals to advance the sport of surfing.

Objectives of this role:

• Manage and motivate staff, work with partners and stakeholders to deliver successful and seamless events, programs and operations
• Build strong, positive and lasting partnerships with government and industry to advance the sport across a number of pillars
• Manage and diversify the organisation’s income streams – grants, sponsorships, event participation and more
• Be the key representative of the organisation in communicating to stakeholders and the public
• Make strategic and financial decisions that determine the trajectory of the organisation
• Monitor budgets, resources, and procedures by working with cross-functional teams
• Create a positive culture through strong, inspirational leadership

Responsibilities:

• Develop, execute, and assess the strategic plan to advance the sport of surfing in Queensland
• Collaborate with stakeholders, sponsors, government bodies and employees to promote the organisation’s objectives
• Serve as a main resource for managing finance, marketing, and events operations
• Ensure staff have clear work plans and are provided with appropriate induction, training and development to effectively achieve their goals
• Manage and implement important procedures and policies for the organisation and administration of the sport in Queensland generally

Required skills and qualifications:

• Solid understanding of finance and business management
• Strong knowledge of marketing across several channels and platforms
• Proven success in driving revenue, through grants, sponsorships and other innovative platforms
• Familiarity with sports and not-for-profit environment
• Excellent communication and team leadership skills

Preferred skills and qualifications:

• Relevant certification in business administration or equivalent experience in management
• Collaboration skills for establishing positive working relationships
• Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines and deliver outcomes to stakeholders
• Project management skills
• Familiarity with a national sporting body structure where the national body can set policy that will flow through the sport to State and club levels.

Location: Southern Gold Coast, QLD

Hours: This role will be five days per week with some flexibility. There will be some weekend work and extended hours required at various times due to the nature of SQ’s events and operations.

Remuneration: A market competitive remuneration package will be offered based on skill and experience.
